Eating with a Fork

Claire has been working on her table manners.

When I picked Claire up from daycare yesterday, they told me that she had been walking around all day holding onto someone's hands which she has never done before. She'll be 15 months next week, so maybe a walker by then.

Hanging Out

Claire did very well at daycare this past week. She didn't cry once when we dropped her off and ignored us when we came to pick her up (that was slightly disappointing, but oh well). She came home with a runny nose which is no surprise now that she's in contact with others besides Momma and Daddy on a regular basis. It will be good for her immune system I'm sure.

Claire has always been very still and patient while getting her fingernails clipped. I think she actually likes it. I, however, have only once attempted to cut her nails. Daddy is the expert.

Old Pictures

Claire likes to get on the couch in Molly's seat and study this photo of my sister, brothers, and me from the mid-late 80s.

For those who are curious, Claire's second, third, and fourth days of daycare were not like the first. She has been worn out all week from the excitement and interaction all day. We're lucky to keep her awake until 7pm and she has not wanted to leave us in the morning. On Wednesday she fell asleep on the walk home around 5:30pm. She has not been overthrilled to leave my arms in the morning, but we're told she stops crying as soon as we're out the door. Her teachers are amazed that she isn't walking because she has such great balance allowing her to run on her knees.

First Day of Daycare

Claire had her first day of daycare today. She did extremely well. We went twice last week for 30 min. or so, to get used to the teacher and classroom. Today, we arrived around 7:45am, walked in and sat on the floor and right away a girl brought Claire a fake orange. Then, Claire followed the girl to the play kitchen and they played with all sorts of fake pasta, fish, pizza, etc. After a few minutes I gave Claire a kiss on the forehead and walked to the other side of the counter to tell her bye. I couldn't even get her attention. One of her new classmates waved goodbye to me, but Claire was too busy exploring. I called around 1:15pm to see how she was doing and they said she hadn't cried at all. She was a little fussy during diaper changes which was no surprise. They said she ate very well at lunch and tried to eat other children's cornbread. At nap-time she just laid on the floor looking at the lights until she fell asleep. When I picked her up around 4:30pm, she wasn't overjoyed to see me, but did come to me when brought in my direction. Needless to say, the day was a success. I hope tomorrow will go as well.
