Happy Father's Day

For Father's Day, Claire got Andrew a new watch. We also relaxed and I picked up dinner to-go at a restaurant nearby. It was very relaxing. Here are some adorable photos of Daddy and Claire.

Also in celebration of Father's Day, yesterday, my whole extended family got together for a picnic lunch at a park in Danville. The men played touch football and some women joined in for wiffle ball. It was pretty hot out, but the breeze and shelter kept us at a reasonable temperature.

What a cutie!

Computer Savvy

We have recently noticed how mesmerized Claire has become by the tv and computer. We know this is a big parenting no-no, but we typically play with her while the tv is on and she sure notices it. I guess we'll need to drop that habit. Andrew and Claire enjoy playing peek-a-boo which often involves Claire wearing the burp cloth (as seen below).

Indian Fort Mountain

This morning we went on our first family hike. There are several trails less than three miles from our house, so we thought we'd do some exploring. The path was much steeper than we had anticipated, but manageable. We also brought lunch and had a picnic at the end of the trail on a large, flat rock (also where we changed Claire's diaper). Molly led the way and was very good about sticking to the trail and letting us catch up to her every now and then. The views were beautiful. Claire enjoyed looking around, but did spend most of the hike asleep. She did some crying on the way down and we knew she was through exploring for the day.

Camera Staredown

Claire has just started noticing the camera, so any time I bring it out she'll quit laughing, smiling, or whatever she's doing and just stare at it. That makes it difficult to capture some of those adorable moments.

Last night we turned Claire around in the Bjorn so she could take in a little more scenery on our walk. She was wide awake the entire walk.
Then, she passed out.

Here is a video of Claire attempting the rollover. We know she has given up when she starts sucking on her fingers.

Front to Back Rollover

Claire rolled over for the first time last night. She was doing some tummy-time while we ate dinner and Andrew saw her roll over to her back from the corner of his eye. She had a surprised look on her face when she found herself on her back. We were so excited that we placed her on her tummy again and sure enough, she rolled over. Of course it was at that point that we thought to get the video camera and it didn't happen again.

Church Service: Attempt #1

We attempted our first church service with a baby today. We decided to try out the non-denominational church at the end of our block that had been recommended to us. We got dressed knowing that Claire would likely be hungry thirty minutes into the service, but it was worth a try. Well, we didn't make it through the announcements before Claire became fussy. I took her just outside the sanctuary to calm her down, but could tell that it wouldn't last. Halfway through the first hymn, we bid farewell and decided to try again next week. Here are some photos of Claire in the dress that her Grannie gave her.

Side Sleeper

There is always controversy as to whether babies should sleep on their back or stomach. Currently, it's thought that the back is safer, but what about their side? We have found Claire the past couple of nights asleep on her side. Hmmm. We'll have to get a photo. Here are some current photos of smiley Claire.
